NL West Preview

Demarus Dye| BKD TV Insiders

Now we have the NL West Preview, which very quietly will be very good in 2014:

Colorado Rockies: 2013: 74-88, fifth in NL West Manager: Walt Weiss (second season) Key additions: Brett Anderson, Justin Morneau, LaTroy Hawkins, Brandon Barnes, Jordan Lyles, Drew Stubbs, Boone Logan Key losses: Todd Helton, Dexter Fowler, Rafael Betancourt. The Rockies brought in a lot of guys in the offseason, but yet the retirement of Todd Helton will be huge in the locker room. Justin Morneau can replace Helton at 1st Base plus with his batting ability, but will Short Stop Troy Tulowitzki be the leader in the locker room and can he and Carlos Gonzalez stay healthy? Also the

Rockies pitching is young and unproven.
San Diego Padres: 2013: 76-86, third in NL West Manager: Bud Black (eighth season) Key additions: Joaquin Benoit, Alex Torres, Josh Johnson, Seth Smith Key losses: Luke Gregerson, Logan Forsythe, Brad Boxberger, Mark Kotsay The Priests in San Diego had a strong 2nd half run & I do think the Padres will contend in the Wild Card, but in this NL West it might not be enough.

San Francisco Giants: 2013: 76-86, third in NL West Manager: Bruce Bochy (eighth season) Key additions: Tim Hudson, Michael Morse Key losses: Andres Torres, Barry Zito The Giants bats fell in 2013 & then there pitching couldn’t keep up. The Giants Pitching rotation once again is very good, mainly due to adding Tim Hudson. But can The Giants bats do enough to get the Giants back in the Postseason?

Arizona Diamondbacks: 2013: 81-81, second in the NL West Manager: Kirk Gibson (fourth season) Key additions: Mark Trumbo, Bronson Arroyo, Addison Reed, Oliver Perez Key losses: Adam Eaton, Heath Bell, Tyler Skaggs The Diamondbacks faded in the end of 2013 mainly for lack of offense outside of 1B Paul Goldschmidt, Mark Trumbo will help with their offense but can the Diamondback finish games with the back end of their bullpen or will that help the D-Backs go backwards in the standings? (already at 0-2)

LA Dodgers: 2013: 92-70, first in NL West (Lost to Cardinals in NLCS) Manager: Don Mattingly (fourth season) Key additions: Dan Haren, Chris Perez, Alex Guerrero Key losses: Mark Ellis, Ricky Nolasco, Nick Punto, Skip Schumaker Outside of young Yasiel Puig’s attitude, the biggest payroll in baseball The LA Dodgers are 2-0 & looking good. The Key is injuries for the Dodgers, can they withstand them? If so, the Dodgers could be the NL Representative in the Fall Classic in October.

My Order of Finish:

1. Dodgers

2. Giants

3. Diamondbacks

4.  Padres

5.  Rockies

I’ll be back with the AL West Preview & also my Postseason Preview, plus AL & NL CY Young plus MVP winners.
