Keep it Real Sports Style- Donald Sterling stuck in a time warp & unknowingly exposes he’s true self:
Over the last 48 hours plus, the TMZ report & recordings afterward of LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling & his mistress exposing his bigotry & racism against African Americans has been publicized. The uproar grew by the minute as one of Sports worst Owners got exposed for the fraud he was, as the LA Chapter of the NAACP was about to give him his 2nd Lifetime achievement award, who knew $5,000 could have the NAACP turn a blind eye to a businessman that was sued by the US Department of Justice for housing discrimination, that Sterling made Statements against renting to Latino & black tenants in 2006. Sterling was quoted from Summer Davenport, Sterling’s top property supervisors in a 2009 ESPN Magazine article about Sterling
2009 article in ESPN: the Magazine:
“Cultivating his image, [former employee] Davenport said, meant no blacks, no Mexican-Americans, no children (whom Sterling called ‘brats’) and no government-housing-subsidy recipients as tenants. So according to the testimony of tenants, Sterling employees made life difficult for residents in some of his new buildings. They refused rent checks, and then accused renters of nonpayment. They refused to do repairs for black tenants and harassed them with surprise inspections, threatening residents with eviction for alleged violations of building rules. …
“When Sterling first bought the Ardmore, he remarked on its odor to Davenport.’That’s because of all the blacks in this building, they smell, they’re not clean,’ he said, according to Davenport’s testimony.’And it’s because of all of the Mexicans that just sit around and smoke and drink all day.’ He added: “so we have to get them out of here.’ Shortly after, construction work caused a serious leak at the complex. When Davenport surveyed the damage, she found an elderly woman, Kandynce Jones, wading through several inches of water in Apartment 121. Jones was paralyzed on the right side and legally blind. She took medication for high blood pressure and to thin a clot in her leg. Still, she was remarkably cheerful, showing Davenport pictures of her children, even as some of her belongings floated around her. …
“Davenport reported what she saw to Sterling, and according to her testimony, he asked: ‘Is she one of those black people that stink?’ When Davenport told Sterling that Jones wanted to be reimbursed for the water damage and compensated for her ruined property, he replied: ‘I am not going to do that. Just evict the b****’.”
Sterling has been knowingly cheap & has screwed over former employees in the past (Elgin Baylor, Mike Dunleavy Sr.) for the money he owned after he fired them. But that being said, the NBA Has known of Sterling dealing & his feelings, but in the NBA Owner outlines, you cannot get rid of an owner, unlike MLB since they have a non-exempt. Adam Silver, NBA Commissioner will suspend Sterling, but the way to get to a billionaire is to hit their wallet, mainly to see the ads/sponsors back out, pull away their money & see attendance fall. The Clippers players are not to blame & are only victims to Sterling’s ignorance. The Clippers must go on as a team, united & playing for a bigger cause, not to just quit, to they should hurt the main purpose of sports in tough times, to unite, using God given talent to show that one stupid, behind the times thinking owner can’t stop what hard work & teamwork bonds together. This is in fact the LA Clippers best year to not only compete for but to possibly win an NBA Championship.
