WrestleMania 31 in Santa Clara’s Levi Stadium was very good & impressed all once more. The Build up maybe wasn’t the best, but the event once again live up to the hype, look below at the Super Bowl of Wrestling/Sports Entertainment review. Thanks to WWE.com for photos & Wrestlinginc & IGN for there help in this review article
Kickoff Pre-show: Fatal 4 Way for the WWE Tag Team Titles- Cesaro and Tyson Kidd def. The Usos vs. Los Matadores vs. Big E and Kofi Kingston, Cesaro & Tyson Kidd retains the WWE Tag Team Titles
A very good Fatal 4 Way match for the Tag Team Titles, early there was a couple of spots that was botched & then Cesaro & Kidd took out Jay Uso, Jimmy competed alone for most of the match due to Jay “being taken out of the match” early, Jay is nursing a Shoulder injury & it’s tough to just see one Uso coming out to the ring. The Tag Team division is thin at the moment, hopefully the Ascension can become the team that can beef with Cesaro & Kidd in this year.
Grade: It was a 7 out of 10 match, botch spots earlier graded it down, but the match picked up & made up for it at the end.
Kickoff Pre-show: Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal- Big Show wins the 2015 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
I predicted via the Flex Zone podcast about WrestleMania 31 that Ryback. Mizdow & the Miz would be the apart of the Final Four & the Big Show had to be apart of it. Earlier in the match Miz and Mizdow eliminating Alex Riley, Bo Dallas eliminating himself, Hitami and Kidd kicking each other (and Big Show eliminating Hitami ), Cesaro eliminating Kane, Cesaro *almost* eliminating Big Show, Big Show gets his revenge on Cesaro from last year, Ryback gets eliminated by Big Show afterward, Mizdow refusing to help Miz fight Big Show, Mizdow eliminating Miz.
Big Show then has Mizdow tries to fight him back, but Big Show wins the 2nd Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. I was a little surprised seeing Big Show win, but this is his 1st Battle Royal Win. Sadly tho, this Event has shown that it will not build up new stars, but the Miz vs. Sandow should be a good beef for a couple of months & maybe Big Show will not be a Main Event Jobber as I would call him & get one more good run.
Grade: I give this a 6 out of 10, certain spots was good like Ryback tossing out the Ascension & Axel Mania getting tossed by almost every wrestler in the match, but the best moment was Mizdow eliminating the Miz, not the finish. This match could have been better & the WWE has to do a better job of having another purpose for this battle royal than just getting the rest of the roster of the card.
WrestleMania 31 Main Show
Ladder Match for the WWE Intercontinental Title- Daniel Bryan def Dolph Ziggler vs. R-Truth vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Luke Harper vs. Stardust vs. Bad News Barrett, Daniel Byran is the next WWE Intercontinental Title
So Daniel Bryan won after a really fun “HeadbuttMania” finish. It came down to him and Dolph Ziggler at the top of the ladder in the end and The Goat’s cranium was just too strong. A nicely worked, hard-hitting spotfest. Dean Ambrose took a nasty looking powerbomb onto a ladder on the outside of the ring, which took him out of the match essentially. He looked legit banged up. The Ladder Spots in this match was really good & as I predicted this match should be 1st & it was and it did not disappoint. Now I see that Bryan & Dolph Ziggler having a feud for the IC Title & Dean Ambrose should get back in the picture to win the Title near Summerslam or Night of Champions.
Grade: Solid 8.5 out of 10, had me entertained from beginning to end.
Randy Orton def. Seth Rollins
This Match had what you wanted to see, good action, storytelling & good chemistry between 2 & the heel(which was Seth Rollins) had J&J Security get involved, but the ending wow. Off the curb stomp, tossing Rollins way high up in the air, the RKO was hit, man. Rollins could have gone over Orton, but Rollins is still the MITB case holder and the match is far enough removed from the main event that he could still play a huge roll in the Brock/Roman finish. Plus, the pattern usually is for the guy who’s about to become world champ to lose a lot before he cashes in big. I think this match stole the show from a wrestling aspect at WrestleMania 31, but Randy Orton has shown he is a great Dance Partner in the ring
Grade: Solid 9 out of 10
Triple H def Sting
In the sense of a Wrestling Match, this shown that Sting still has it & Triple H is still the King of making peeps look good in the ring, but from Triple H Terminator Entrance, to DX vs. NWO, to Shawn Micheals coming out of the stands, to Sting breaking the Sledgehammer with his bat, to Triple H using a piece of it to hit Sting & win. man. Surprise factor was a 10+. A lot of us wanted Sting to win this match, thinking this could be his only one, but this might show Sting coming back for at the most 3 more matches. Triple H has also lost his last four matches so this does help also sell him that he can still do it in the ring
Grade: Solid 8 out of 10
AJ Lee and Paige def. The Bella Twins
Best Women’s Match @ WrestleMania since Trish Straus vs. Mickie James @ WrestleMania 22. The 4 Best Diva’s right now on the Main WWE Roster did not disappoint with their in-ring action. Seems like the success of Total Divas has helped the WWE Front Office to start booking the Whole Women’s Division as a little more serious & more than just 2 minute restroom matches. I could see this beef getting one more payoff with AJ Lee winning back the Diva’s Title
Grade: Solid 7 out of 10 Match
WWE United States Title Match John Cena def. Rusev, John Cena wins the US Title
Rusev entrance was good, but this match could not live up to their good storytelling Fast Lane Match, this shows at the end that Cena have the US Belt is better for the Title. Outside of Cena’s new Springboard Stunner, this match was same old type of Cena Match. Rusev bumped Lana, which cost Rusev the title, this should case friction once more between the 2(She will be leaving for a month or so to shoot a WWE Studios), but now for Rusev, No U.S. title. No win streak. No Lana, I think he will be fine, mainly if he goes after Cena & a Extreme Rules Rematch comes with Lana returning to maybe cost Cena the title.
Grade: 5 out of 10- I thought Rusev showed he could hang at the top of Card, some botched moments by both Wrestlers tho didn’t help things. My Opinion the match did really hurt or help anybody look any better. Very Slowed paced by Cena, could be time once Cena drops this Title to stay off of TV for awhile also.
The Rock & Ronda Rousey confronts the Authority
Triple H & Stephanie McMahon came out to ay into the crowd and gloat about Hunter’s big win over Sting. Steph says she owns everybody & everyone in the WWE, out comes the Rock from SNL Saturday Night in NYC to verbally lay into Trips and the Billion Dollar Princess. It wasn’t long before Steph slapped Rock, causing him to rethink both his motives and strategy.
We look down Rock’s co-star from Fast & Furious 7 and UFC sensation Ronda Rousey was at ringside. He invited her into the ring and Rocky and Rousey proceeded to layeth a serving of smack down on Hunter and Steph. Steph escaped mostly unscathed, but Hunter took a judo flip from Ronda. Totally harmless, but also good times. This is either setting up Rock vs. Triple H for WM 32 or The Rock & Ronda Rousey vs. the Authority at Summerslam or WM 32 next year.
Grade: This Moment was a solid WrestleMania Moment along with Daniel Byran with IC Champs of the past earlier. Wrestlemania 31 Moments get a solid 10 out of 10.
The Undertaker def. Bray Wyatt
Just Undertaker being back and looking healthy was the ultimate victory here. The Match wasn’t the best, but it told a story about both characters, Taker doing his “sit up” during Bray’s upside-down creepy crawly handstand was an amazing moment. So overall it was just awesome to see Undertaker back. And facing Bray. We were all clapping and popping for very basic things – like Taker going “Old School.” A move he didn’t even get to do last year. Kick outs for both the Tombstone and Sister Abigail took things down to the wire. Taker then nailed a second Tombstone for the win.
Most wanted Bray to win, but his character is not based off of wins & loses, but about breaking the spirit of the person he is going after. But Taker’s needed to rebound after last year’s big fall overtook everything else in the end and the Dead Man prevailed. Word is the Undertaker win be on Monday Night Raw after Mania, we will see what next matchup will set up for both the Undertaker & Bray Wyatt.
Grade: 7 out 10, not the best wrestling match, but very good in telling a story.
WWE World Heavyweight Title Match: Seth Rollins def Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar with Paul Heyman, Rollins during the match turned in his Money in the Bank Contract & is the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion
A super mauling by Brock Lesnar that rocked Roman Reigns for a good fifteen minutes. Made everybody believe that Summerslam repeat was going to happen with Suplex CIty. Then Lesnar got busted open and bled (a lot!). Three Superman Punches and two spears – and Brock kicked out! It was all incredible. Then while both men was hitting each other with everything they got, Seth Rollins comes out & makes the match a Triple Threat Match
A curb stomp to Brock! Rollins went for a second curb stomp – almost got F-5’d, but a Reigns Spear saved him! Then a curb stomp to Reigns for the win! Seth Rollins walks out the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion! Our press area popped huge for this entire match – especially the finish! The champ didn’t get pinned, Roman didn’t win the title, and Rollins is on top of the world. Predicted that this could happen which sets everything up perfectly. Good to See Rollins be the Champion & the fans can really get being Reigns & Lesnar could become the babyface people wants also.
Grade: Wrestling wise a 6.5 out of 10, nor surprise with 2 bulls going at each other, it was a physical battler, but the finish, a solid 9 out of 10 with Rollins making the match Triple Threat & walking out with the Title.
Overall Grade of WrestleMania 31– A Solid 8.5 out of 10, good action in all the matches & it showed that the talent roster has been redone very well by Triple H being at the Head of Talent Relations, with good to very good performers now & NXT having even more them. Good start to the future of WWE.
Now my next Wrestling Review will come for Payback on May 17, which will be in my Backyard in Baltimore, which I’m trying to attend.
