2015 Summerslam Review

Demarus Dye| BKD TV Insiders

Former Daily Show Host Jon Stewart while hosting Summerslam 2015 shocks everybody by attacking John Cena in the Title vs. Title match with Seth Rollins.

I watched both Summerslam last night & NXT Takeover Brooklyn show over the weekend was pretty good. For almost 7 hours of Wrestling in 2 days, the WWE keep everybody watching entertained & interested. I would give Summerslam a solid 8 out of 10 as a event last night with the 2 top matches have questionable finishes at best. Thanks to WWE.com for photos of both events & Wrestling inc for help in this article.

The rivals put their differences aside to unite as the Four Horsewomen of NXT to celebrate Bayley’s big title win vs. Sasha Banks in the birthplace of the Divas Revolution: WWE NXT.

Sheamus def. Randy Orton

“Mr. Money in the Banks” reigns supreme in SummerSlam’s opening contest.

Prediction– Orton got the win a month ago, I see Sheamus getting the win back at Summerslam to set up a rubber match.

Well I was dead on with this opening match that was good, but really most of the crowd didn’t care about mainly because we all have seen it before & recently. I thought it was a good match & with Sheamus getting the mic to address the crowd was funny. This was the end of the match: Orton readies for a punt kick but Sheamus dodges it and hits White Noise for a 2 count. The “you look stupid” chants start again. Sheamus poses and readies for a Brogue Kick. Orton turns around and sidesteps it. Sheamus blocks the RKO. Sheamus nails a Brogue Kick in the corner. Orton stumbles out of the corner and Sheamus nails another Brogue Kick for the win. Match Rating- I give 3 stars out of 5 stars, a good match but again these 2 maybe shouldn’t be matchup with each other in a while.

The New Day def. The Prime Time Players (c) vs. The Lucha Dragons vs. Los Matadores for the WWE Tag Team Championship

The New Day celebrates there WWE Tag Team Championship win.

Prediction- I like the New Day to be the two time champs.

The New Day is the most over the top tag team in the WWE Tag Team Division right now. The Prime Time Players now being the chasers again of the titles & not getting pinned to lose them should be good once more. I admit this match was better than I thought it would be with some high spots, not so good earlier but better high spots in the end of the match. This was the end of the match: Young ends up slamming Woods on the apron. Big E spears Young and they land hard on the floor. Fans chant “this is awesome” now. Cara comes in with Fernando on the top. Kalisto comes over to assist for a top rope double team move but Fernando falls to the floor on accident. Diego comes up to the top and they go for a double superplex but Titus runs over and brings all three of them to the mat. Titus with Clash of the Titus for the pin but Kofi runs in, nails him and steals the pin on one of the Los Matadores for the win. Match Rating– I give this match 3.5 Stars out of 5 Stars, much better match than going into this Fatal 4 Way.

Dolph Ziggler (with Lana) vs. Rusev (with Summer Rae) goes to a Double Countout

Everybody in the ring brawling after the match.

Prediction– Lana cost Ziggler the match, which sets up a mix tag match soon.

I didn’t expect a Double Countout, but we knew this programs was going on pass Summerslam, both Ziggler & Rusev looked good & then on the outside Summer Rae & Lana got into. You would think the next match would be all 4 in the ring, but they could draw this out some more. This was the end of the match: Rusev puts Ziggler on his face again and hits a big kick. Rusev calls for the crush and stomps on Ziggler’s back. He applies The Accolade and Lana comes over to cheer on Ziggler. Summer confronts her and gets dropped with a slap. Rusev breaks the hold and yells at Lana. Ziggler rolls to the floor as fans chant for Lana.

Rusev follows and holds Ziggler in front of Lana as she yells. Summer drops Lana with a big shot. Ziggler recovers and superkicks Rusev onto the announce table, laying him out. Ziggler tries to make it back in the ring but they both get counted out.

Match Rating– I give this match a solid 3 out of 5

Stephen Amell and Neville def. Stardust and King Barrett

Stephen Amell proves he may very well be the Green Arrow, leaping from the top rope to the outside taking down both his opponents.

Prediction– The Arrows beat the Cosmic Kings

Amell took the training very seriously for this match, even heard he had got a injury during training, but it was all worth it. Of Course Neville in his 1st Major WWE PPV Event was great & Stardust caught a straight kick from Amell was very shocked. King Barrett took the pin in this match as I see Stardust & Neville still moving on in this program. This was the end of the match:

Barrett comes back in and hits Amell with knees on the ropes, knocking him out to the floor. Barrett distracts the referee while Stardust hits Amell on the floor. Barrett brings it back in and tags in Stardust for some double teaming. Stardust talks trash and suplexes Amell up before dropping him on his face for a 2 count. Amell goes for a kick but it’s caught. Amell nails an enziguri and Stardust goes down.

Neville and Barrett come in. Neville unloads to a pop. He hits a forearm and a kick in the corner. Neville goes up and hits a back flip from the second rope for a 2 count as Stardust breaks it up. Stardust and Barrett end up on the floor. Amell comes in and splashes them from the top rope. Amell rolls Barrett back in the ring for Neville to hit Red Arrow and get the win.

Match Rating– I give this match a solid 3 out of 5 stars, I thought it was good for having a celebrity in the match that took his training seriously.

Ryback (c) def. Big Show & The Miz to retains the WWE Intercontinental Championship

The Big Guy celebrates the victory with his Intercontinental Title.

Prediction– I like Ryback to pin the Miz on retain.

I thought the Miz did a good job trying to captialize on the Big Show & Ryback beating up on each other, but this was by far the worst match of the night. The Match did it’s job to get Ryback over & with the Big Show not getting pin, this would put Big Show & Ryback in one more match maybe? This was the end of the match: Show calls for a knockout punch on Ryback but he ducks it. Ryback with a spinebuster on Show. Ryback with a splash. Ryback gets the “feed me more” chant going and readies for a Meathook. Show grabs hi for a chokeslam. Ryback fights it off and nails Shellshocked on Show. Miz runs in and nails a Skull Crushing Finale on Ryback, stealing the pin for a 2 count. Miz covers Show for a 2 count. And another pin attempt on Ryback, another on Show, another on Ryback, another on Show. Ryback is upset now. He calls Miz stupid and goes for Shellshocked but Show hits a knockout punch on Ryback. Show covers for 2 as Miz breaks it. Miz with a 2 count as Show stops it. Show grabs Miz by his throat. Miz fights out but runs into a knockout punch. Ryback knocks Show over the top rope and steals the pin, covering Miz for the win.

Match Rating– I give this match a 2.5 out of 5, this match did it’s job on this card.

Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns def. Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper

After Reigns cuts Wyatt in half with a Spear, the former Hounds of Justice stand victorious.

Prediction– I like the Wyatt Family to get the win after Reigns or Ambrose hit the other by accident, to slow get doubt into there partnership.

I wasn’t a fan of this result, but since Wyatt beat Reigns in singles match at Battleground last month, this returned the favor. It was a good match with Ambrose doing most of the work. Hopefully for all 4 guys they get fresh matchups/programs soon. This was the end of the match: Wyatt works Ambrose over in the corner as fans chant “Roman’s sleeping” now. Ambrose comes back and nails a clothesline as Reigns finally comes back to the apron. Reigns tags in to boos. He nails a clothesline on Harper and another. Fans boo more. Reigns runs into an elbow but rocks Harper with a right. Harper with a boot. Reigns fights back. Fans cheer when Harper boots Reigns. Reigns with a pair of suplexes. Reigns knocks Wyatt off the apron and Harper kicks him. Harper with the sitdown powerbomb for a close 2 count. Wyatt wants to put Reigns away and Harper agrees. Wyatt tags in and they try for a spiked piledriver but Reigns backdrops Harper. Wyatt takes a Superman punch, falling from the turnbuckles. Harper eats one also. Ambrose tags in. Reigns puts Wyatt on his shoulder and Ambrose connects with the Doomsday Device. Wyatt kicks out at 2 as Harper breaks it up. Reigns stops Harper from powerbombing Ambrose. Reigns powerbombs Harper with an assist from Ambrose. Harper rolls to the floor. Ambrose blocks Sister Abigail and hits Dirty Deeds on Wyatt. Reigns tags in as fans boo. He waits for Wyatt to get up and hits the spear for the win.

Match Rating– I give this match a 3 out of 5, but all 4 have had better matches with each other.

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins def. United States Champion John Cena for the United States Championship

Seth Rollins is the 1st man to hold both the WWE World Heavyweight & US Title at the same time.

Prediction– Rollins by DQ, I see interference by someone, ummmm

I thought this match was the best match of the night as once again John Cena shows he is a big show performer & Seth Rollins showed a great of a pure athletic he is in the ring & mixing it into telling a story. I think we all knew that Cena was not walking out with the WWE WH Belt, but to see Jon Stewart come interfere in Rollins behalf after Rollins & Stewart was beefing with each other was great. Unlike ROH where Jay Lethal has both Title, I think Rollins drop the US Title & a tournament will start with that ending @ Night of Champions. I could see a Cena/ Rollins rematch coming also. This was the end of the match: Rollins goes back to the top but lands on his knees as Cena moves. Cena nails the AA but the referee was accidentally knocked down. Cena covers but the referee is out. The referee rolls to the floor. Cena realizes what has happened and he calls for another referee. Cena picks Rollins up but Rollins hits a knee to the nose. Jon Stewart runs down with a steel chair and waits for Rollins to get up. Stewart teases Rollins and then Cena. He ends up hitting Cena in the gut to a huge pop. Stewart puts the chair down and Rollins Pedigrees Cena onto it for the win and all the gold.

Match Rating– I give this match a solid 4 out of 5, very good match by 2 of the top day by day performers on the Main WWE Roster.

PCB (Paige,Charlotte and Becky Lynch) def. Team Bella & B.A.D. (Naomi, Sasha Banks and Tamina) in a Three Team Elimination Match

In the end, PCB showed that their bond remains rock solid & wins the match.

Prediction– I like PCB Team to win this match.

All 9 Women got there work in & each team was protected as Team Bad was gone 1st with Tamina getting pinned, I was surprised that Becky Lynch & not Charlotte getting the winning pin for team PCB over team Bella. I thought this was a good match, not like the classic between Bayley vs. Sasha Banks on the NXT Takeover Brooklyn show, but it was good in its own right, soon I would say these team will start to break up & who will be the #1 contender for the Divas Title. This was the end of the match: Paige fights back and nails all three of them. She finally drops Alicia with a knee to the face. She reaches for a tag but Fox holds her foot. Paige slaps her and tags in Charlotte to a pop. Charlotte unloads on Fox. Charlotte with a neckbreaker. She knocks Nikki off the apron and spears Alicia. Charlotte applies the Figure Four and turns it into the Figure Eight but Nikki breaks it up. Paige sends Nikki to the floor and tumbles with her. Charlotte and Fox both nail big boots on each other and go down at the same time. Brie tags in as Becky comes in. They go at it trading lots of blows. Becky snap mares Brie into the corner but runs into boots. Brie misses the missile dropkick and Becky hits a pumphandle slam for the win.

Match Rating– I give this match a 3.5 out of 5, still think they did this match a disservice by putting it right after what happened in the Title vs. Title match before hand.

Kevin Owens def. Cesaro

Kevin Owens survives a tough match with Cesaro after losing to Finn Balor in NXT Takeover Brooklyn.

Prediction– I Like Owens to sneak a win to set up a rematch soon.

I think it helped Kevin Owens that this match was before the main event to help him recover after that battle he had with Finn Balor for the NXT Title the night before. Right now Cesaro can do no wrong as his star is rising again, as this match didn’t steal the show, but it was very solid & good. Cesaro do need a program that will get him over to the next level. This was the end of the match: Cesaro avoids a pop-up powerbomb and ducks a clothesline, then hits a corkscrew uppercut off the ropes for a 2 count. Owens goes to the floor and Cesaro follows. He drops Owens with an uppercut and brings him back in the ring. Cesaro calls for the Cesaro Swing and hits it. Cesaro goes for the Sharpshooter and gets it locked in. Owens breaks the hold by getting to the rope. They end up in the corner and Cesaro knocks Owens out with a dropkick while he’s perched on top. Cesaro climbs up and tries for some kind of move but Owens crotches him. Owens brings Cesaro to the mat and nails the pop-up powerbomb for the win.

Match Rating– This match gets a 3.5 out of 5, a very solid match indeed.

The Undertaker def. Brock Lesnar (with Paul Heyman)

Brock Lensar F-5 Undertaker onto the Announce Table.

Prediction– Undertaker wins with some help from Kane.

Well the Undertaker did get some help to win, mainly from Ref Charles Robinson who didn’t see the Undertaker tapping out to Lensar’s Kimura Lock. Referee Charles Robinson yells at the timekeeper, saying he didn’t call for the bell and it was only a 1 count. Heyman is in the ring going nuts. Lesnar is standing but Taker comes from behind with a low blow. Taker applies Hell’s Gate again. Cole says the confusion was over whether or not Taker tapped. Lesnar gives Taker the middle finger while in Hell’s Gate. He passes out a few seconds later for the win.

This seem this will set up a rubber match at Wrestlemania 32 a no DQ/Countout match, I would prefer this be there last meeting, but not. After the bell: Taker’s music hits and he makes his exit. We see Lesnar recovering in the ring. Heyman is yelling about how Taker tapped out. We go to replays and see that Taker did tap out. Lesnar and Heyman are pissed at the referee now and he leaves the ring. Heyman goes and starts ringing the bell. He’s pissed, “no! no! no! no! no!” Heyman says he saw it, the timekeeper saw it, everyone else saw it – Taker tapped out and he announces Lesnar is the winner. We go back to replays. Cole says the record books will show Taker as the winner. Lesnar and Heyman make their exit and look back at the crowd as his music plays and SummerSlam goes off the air.

It was unexpected to see a ending like that & that was the hook to fans to see what will be next.

Match Rating– This match gets a 3.5 out of 5, a much better match than there WrestleMania 30 showdown

Tonight Raw will be interesting indeed with rumors that Sting will be there & Undertaker will also, this should be good what will the Summerslam fallout will be. I will be back soon to do another Wrestling Article, stay tuned & thanks for reading.
